With hot summer days fast becoming a distant memory, the staff at the stall are enjoying the cool dark mornings.  These give way to a beautiful dawn and a sky dotted with hot air ballons. Our mornings commence either at the wholesale market just after 3am or at the Queen Victoria Market at 5am.  Mornings are a peaceful time when the city is still asleep, traffic is light and the coffee tastes good even if it is bad.  We catch up with each other, talk about the produce - what's new and what's great.  The displays gradually take shape as the first customers trickle in and the day kicks off.

Brussels sprouts are out!  Yum.  Locally grown by Forrest Herbs these are small sized with great tastes, cook lightly to preserve the flavour.

Apples from Forest Orchards in SA are now available.  They are one of our preferred apple grower with consistent quality every year.  The other premium apple grower is Mr Martin from Mill Spring Farm in Ruffy, Victoria.  Although a small producer his apples are exceptional and worth getting your hands on when available.

Plums - Autumn Giants are currently available but supply can be a bit hit and miss.

Sweet Corn - the Victorian season is quickly finishing as the temperature gets colder.  Enjoy the next few weeks while you can.

Potatoes - a wide range of varieties of Victorian and Tasmanian potatoes are available.  Foothill Organic currently have Coliban and Bison which are suitable for mashing, roasting and baking.  Wombat Forest have grown some Royal Blue potatoes for a bit of difference - they are an excellent allrounder.

Avocadoes - new season Hass from Googa Farms are available now.  These have good flavour even though the flesh seems to have less oil.
